About The Wildlife Sanctuary:

Visited by tourists from across the globe for One horned Rhinoceros, the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is a famous sanctuary of North East India. It covers an area of 38.8 sq km and is located on the border of Nagaon and Kamrup districts. It is rich in wildlife and was declared a Reserve Forest in 1971 and a wildlife sanctuary in 1981.

Besides being a natural home to One Horned Rhinoceros, the sanctuary shelters animals such as leopard, wild bear, civet cat, Asiatic buffalo and much more. Several species of reptiles can be spotted in the sanctuary. The sanctuary also serves as a temporary home to the beautiful migratory birds. Around 2000 migratory birds have been reported in the sanctuary. The sanctuary has good population of One horned rhinoceros. The sanctuary is surrounded by several villages which increases the chances of poaching.
