Namchi SikkimNamchi town is one of the famous tourist spot of Sikkim. It is the capital of the South Sikkim. Located at an altitude of 1,675 m, Namchi offers overwhelming view of the snow-clad mountains and the beautiful valley. The term Namchi means 'Sky High'. Sprawling among the hill, it attracts a lot of tourists from different corners of the world. It is dotted with impressive attractions such as the Namachi Monastery, Ralong Monestry and Tedong Hill, the famous Buddhist pilgrimage centres. The world's largest statue of the Buddhist Padmasambhava towering to a height of 118 ft. leave the onlookers amazed. He was a great saint of Sikkim. The statue is perched on the nearby hill Samdruptse. The hill is only 8 km from Namchi at an altitude of 7000 ft. A few km from the town lies the Temi Tea Garden, the only tea estate of Sikkim. The tea leaves of Sikkim are renowned the world over for its aroma,taste and good quality. Try it out. You can even take some tea packets back home. There is a beautiful garden in Namchi which becomes a venue for the annual Flower Show in February. Different varieties of Orchids is the main highlight of the show. Nearby Attractions: Cottage Industry: A centre where the beautiful handicrafts of Sikkim are preserved and promoted. Rock Garden: This airy garden is located at the foot of the Samdrupste hill. Refresh yourself at this magnificent garden. Doling Gumpa: It is the monastery belonging to the oldest sect of Buddhism.
