Longleng NagalandNature has showered abundant natural beauty on the Longleng district of Nagaland.Located at an altitude of 1066.30 m above sea level, Longleng is the district headquarters of the Phoms. Earlier it was a part of the Tuensang district. It was separated from the Tuensang district in the year 2004. Longleng shares its borders with Mon district in the north, Mokokchung district in the west and Tuensang district in the south. The most important towns of the longleng district are Tamlu and Longleng. The primary language spoken here is Phom. There are around 15 village and few towns in this district. Longleng is situated at a distance of 230 km from Kohima, the capital city of Nagaland. En route you can see the true picture of rural India. You will come across several rural markets where several organic agricultural products are available. Earlier Phom was a sub tribe of the Konyaks but later got its new identity as a tribe on the 6th June. Every year this day is celebrated with great fervour. It is considered as the day of awakening. The rich culture of the Phom Nagas beautifully reflects in their festivals and musical instruments like log drums. Monyu is the main festival which welcomes the summer. Several cultural activities such as dance and music are an integral part of this festival. Al the people of the village come together to celebrate the festival with great joy. |
